The Portland Timbers are on the road for their match against the Philadelphia Union. It’s the first time the squad has been to the east coast for a regular season match since 2019. That’s a big deal in and of itself, but this game is already significant just because of the two teams that are playing.
The Timbers — who are still down several players due to some horrific injury luck — have a chance to win their third match in a row this evening with a win in Philly. The Union, meanwhile, have the chance to show that they are still a dominant force in the Eastern Conference. I say this as someone with some obvious Timbers bias, but this to me is the match of the day. Getting three points out of this match is the perfect way to head into the June break.
