MLS: Concacaf Champions League-America at Portland Timbers Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers are set tonight for what very well could be the final 90 minutes of their Concacaf Champions League run. They’re at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City for the second leg of their quarterfinal matchup against Club America, the Liga MX and Concacaf giant.

It goes without saying that this is going to be a tough one. The Timbers kept their CCL chances alive with a stunning 1-1 draw back in Portland, but that came because of a handball call at the death that allowed Felipe Mora to take the penalty. If the Timbers want to challenge Club America, I would venture to say that waiting until the second half to make their push is not the most sound strategy!

Whether or not they go without a shot in the first half again like they did last time or come out guns blazing, Club America is not going to make it easy. But maybe they can pull it off with the return of Jeremy Ebobisse and a rested first XI. Maybe they won’t be able to. I honestly don’t know. All I know is that the Timbers have their work cut out for them tonight. But it’s Concacaf. Anything can happen.
