After putting together a solid performance in the defensive midfield for the Portland Timbers coming off an injury, Diego Chara has been named to the MLS Week 8 Team of the Week. It is the first time that Chara has been named to the team this season.

Chara had been dealing with a hamstring issue and had to miss the last three matches before the international break. In his first game back, he helped guide the Timbers to a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City, putting together an impressive defensive display while acting as a great connector between the offense and defense.
This is the second time this season the Timbers have had players named to the MLS Team of the Week. Eryk Williamson and Austin Ketterer both earned the honor after helping lead Portland to a 2-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on May 15.
The Timbers have a busy week ahead of them. They’ll play the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday on the road before coming back home for their match against Minnesota United.
