On a Saturday jam-packed with great NWSL soccer, Portland Thorns FC and the North Carolina Courage are set to square off in a regular season soccer match for the first time since 2019. That match did not go so well for Portland. They were blown out 6-0 in what proved to be the largest shutout victory in NWSL history for the Courage.
But that Thorns team was not quite as strong as this current iteration of Portland. The most obvious change is that the Thorns have Crystal Dunn now, who spent three years in Cary, North Carolina dominating the league. It’ll be the first time that Dunn has faced off against her old team since the big trade that brought her to Portland. That storyline alone should make this interesting, but add in the fact that these are two of the best teams in the league, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a dramatic and exciting match.
