Portland Thorns FC announced today that the club has signed Yazmeen Ryan and Hannah Betfort. The two players were picked by the Thorns in the 2021 NWSL Draft. Ryan was selected with the sixth overall pick and was the Thorns’ first pick of the draft. Betfort was the 37th overall pick in the draft.

Ryan signed a three-year contract with an option and Betfort signed a one-year contract with an option.

Ryan finished the 2020-21 season with seven goals and six assists and helped lead Texas Christian University to their first-ever Elite Eight appearance. She led the Horned Frogs in points with 20. Ryan is a creative player that has experience playing in attack, midfield and defense but will most likely be used as a midfielder with the Thorns.

Betfort played collegiately at Wake Forest University. The defender scored six goals and assisted eight in her 65 career matches. Betfort captained the Deamon Deacons in all nine matches during the 2020 fall season, earning Third Team All-ACC honors.
