A battle of the coasts will happen once more when Portland Thorns FC plays host to NJ/NY Gotham FC later today. It is the third meeting between these two sides this season, with the first two going in favor of the Thorns.
One big difference between those matches and this upcoming showdown, however, was who was on the field for Portland. The Thorns will be without numerous players in this match, with the likes of Crystal Dunn, Lindsey Horan, Becky Sauerbrunn, Adrianna Franch, and Christine Sinclair all out on international duty for this match. It will be up to the depth of the Thorns to get away with some points today.
Fortunately, they’ve already shown throughout this season that they can thrive without their national team stars. Plus, they’ll have the added bonus of a full-capacity Providence Park. With the whole of Rose City behind the Thorns, it’s hard to imagine them coming up short.
