It’s a full weekend at Providence Park (Get it? Because they’re at full capacity and there’s two matches? Okay, I’ll show myself out). After the Portland Timbers pulled off a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas, its now Portland Thorns FC’s turn to do the same. They take on the Orlando Pride, who are second in the NWSL standings at the moment.
As their record may suggest, Orlando is no pushover. It’s going to be a difficult match for the Thorns, especially considering they’re without several players due to international duty. The last time these two teams met, things did not go so well for Portland, as they fell 2-1 in Orlando. Now they have to try and earn some points against this Orlando squad while missing some of their best players.
But it’s not unlike anything the Thorns have faced before, not to mention that Orlando is missing some players of their own. Plus, homefield advantage is a very real thing, and the fact the Thorns will have the whole of Rose City on their side should work to their advantage. Let’s hope it results in some points.
