The Thorns are at the top. Can they stay there?

In a day packed with Rose City Soccer, Portland Thorns FC is in Houston for their match against the Dash. It will be the first meeting between the two sides since the clubs played to a draw in the NWSL Challenge Cup.

Historically, the Thorns have dominated this matchup — at least during the regular season. They currently boast a 8-0-2 record (W-L-D) in their last 10 regular-season contests against the Dash. It’s the second-longest unbeaten streak in the club’s history, the longest being their 18-game streak against the Chicago Red Stars.

The Dash are no pushovers. They’re in a three-way tie for third place right now and would surely love to break free from the pack with a win against the Thorns, who sit at the top of the table after beating Orlando last week. But even with players gone on international duty, I expect the Thorns to put up a strong fight against Houston.
