Portland Thorns FC is back in action with a noon soccer match against Kansas City NWSL. It is the third time that the two sides have met in 2021, with the previous two meetings going in Portland’s favor. And it won’t get much easier for KC, as the Thorns are on a bit of a roll right now. They’re currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak.
This is a slightly different Kansas City squad then the one that the Thorns have seen. Most notably, KC traded away stud midfielder Amy Rodriguez in exchange for Kristen Hamilton, Katelyn Rowland, and Hailie Mace. The trade has paid dividends so far, however, with the team looking strong+ since their arrival.
The Thorns look a bit different, too, with several players still away at the Olympics (FYI, be sure to check out Grant Little’s updates on the Thorns in Tokyo). But despite that, they’ve shown that they’re a formidable club no matter who’s on the pitch. Can they make it three in a row against Kansas City today? Let’s hope so.
