The Athletic’s Meg Linehan reported on Monday that Portland Thorns FC have traded goalkeeper Adrianna Franch to Kansas City NWSL in exchange for $150,000 in allocation money as well as goalkeeper Abby Smith.
Franch has played in seven matches for the Thorns this season, posting clean sheets in four of those matches. She has been away on international duty for a good chunk of the year, spending time with the U.S. Women’s National Team. She was with the squad in Tokyo that brought home bronze at the Olympics.
Smith, meanwhile, is a 27-year-old keeper who has appeared in five matches this season. In those five starts, she has allowed seven goals.
Portland has put together one of the best defenses in the NWSL so far this year. They’ve conceded only eight goals on the year and have posted nine clean sheets. Bella Bixby has done well between the sticks filling in for Franch, with five clean sheets in seven starts and a save percentage of .889.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available. If you have a subscription, you can read Linehan’s short update (which, theoretically, should also have more updates soon) here.
