Portland Thorns FC will face off against Olympique Lyonnais Féminin tonight at 7 p.m. at Providence Park. The winner will have earned the title of best club in the world — or at least the winner of the WICC. It’s hard to get too objective with that, but either way, if the Thorns put on a good showing against Lyon, that will be an accomplishment in its own right.
If this match is anything like the prior one against the Houston Dash, it’ll be an exciting affair. Portland showed once again that regardless of who’s out on the pitch — their A-Team, B-Team, whoever — they can put together victories. Shelby Hogan was an undrafted signing earlier this year and just put together a PK performance that goalkeepers dream of. It doesn’t matter who the Thorns play; they’re always pushing for victory.
Will they achieve victory tonight? We’ll find out.
