Portland Thorns FC travel to Seattle to take on OL Reign at Lumen Field. This is the first match of the Cascadia rivalry doubleheader. The Thorns and Reign kickoff at 4:00 p.m. (PST) and the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders play at Lumen Field at 7:30 p.m. (PST).
The Thorns and Reign have met twice this season. Portland won the first meeting between the rivals in the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup. Lindsey Horan opened the scoring with a pinpoint free kick and Simone Charley scored right after halftime. The Thorns won 2-0 and eventually went on to win the Challenge Cup.
The Reign got the better of the Thorns in a 2-1 win during the NWSL regular season on May 23 at Providence Park. Christine Sinclair scored in the fourth minute but Megan Rapinoe and Shirley Cruz scored in the ninth and 15th minutes, giving OL a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
The rivals will meet for the third time this season tonight. The Thorns and Reign will play at least one more time on Saturday, Oct. 2.
