Match Thread: Portland Timbers vs. Real Salt Lake (7:30 p.m. Pacific)

Let’s try for a normal match, huh fellas?

After what has already been a very taxing week for Rose City, the Portland Timbers are back in action with a match against Real Salt Lake. It is the first meeting between the two sides in 2021. Salt Lake has held the advantage in the past three matches, going unbeaten in the last three meetings between the two sides. Last time, Salt Lake beat Portland 2-1.

It’s been a long week for the Timbers. They played San Jose to a 1-1 draw in a very feisty match on Wednesday and also traded away Jeremy Ebobisse to San Jose in exchange for some GAM. It was a move that provided some cap relief, but certainly saddened many a Timbers fan considering how special Ebobisse was to this community.

The reality of sports is that our attention now has to shift forward to tonight. The Timbers need to recapture some magic to try and put together three points. Considering they haven’t gotten a win since their July 21 matchup against LAFC, I think they would very much like that right about now. Let’s get a win, Rose City.
