The Portland Timbers had two players selected to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 18, with forward Dairon Asprilla and goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic both making the cut. It is the first time that both players have made the team this season.
Asprilla put together a quality match against Real Salt Lake last Saturday, scoring on a penalty kick and earning an assist as he helped the Timbers push past RSL 3-2. Asprilla is putting together his strongest season ever as a Timber, with a career-high four goals through only 17 matches as well as two assists.
Ivacic also did well stepping in for an injured Steve Clark on Saturday. Ivacic had seven saves in the critical match and was rock solid as RSL made a final push for points. The keeper has 18 saves on the year and has posted a .750 save percentage.
Portland will play their Pacific Northwest rivals on Sunday, Aug. 15 for their next match, playing host to the Seattle Sounders. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. Pacific.
