Providence Park to host NWSL Championship on Nov. 20

Providence Park will host the NWSL Championship for the third time.

SOCCER: NOV 14 NWSL Championship - North Carolina Courage v Portland Thorns

The National Women’s Soccer League announced Sunday that the NWSL Championship will be played in Providence Park for the third time. The final will kick off at 9:00 a.m. (Pacific) on Saturday, Nov. 20. Commissioner Lisa Baird made the announcement pitchside in Exploria Stadium.

The Equalizer’s Dan Lauletta reported Sunday that the NWSL Championship will be played at Providence Park on Saturday, Nov. 20. The match will be broadcast on CBS.

Lauletta’s report was confirmed by the league at halftime of the Orlando Pride’s match against the Houston Dash on CBS. This will be the third NWSL Championship at Providence Park. FC Kansas City and the North Carolina Courage lifted the NWSL Championship trophy in Providence Park in 2015 and 2018, respectively.

This will be the third title game played in Providence Park this season. The Thorns secured home field advantage in the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup final because they accumulated more points than any other team. Portland went on to win the Challenge Cup against NJ/NY Gotham FC via a penalty shootout. This was the first time the Thorns won a title in Providence Park.

The Thorns also hosted the Women’s International Champions Cup. Portland defeated Olympique Lyonnais in the final, courtesy of a late Morgan Weaver goal. The Thorns were able to lift their second title of the season in Providence Park.

Portland has won the NWSL Championship twice. The Thorns were crowned champions in Rochester, NY in 2013 and in Orlando, FL in 2017.

The Portland Thorns currently top the NWSL table with 32 points through 16 matches. The NWSL playoffs will include six teams for the first time in the league’s history. The top two regular season finishers will get a bye into the second round of the playoffs.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 10:00 a.m. (Pacific). Fans can buy tickets by calling (888) 736-6849 or at www.thornsfc.com. Thorns FC Annual Members will have access to an exclusive presale beginning Tuesday, Sept. 14. Tickets will be held for fans of both finalists and will be available once the two teams are confirmed.
