The Portland Timbers and the Timbers Army give back to the community year round with events, donations, and, above all else, volunteer work. This week the Timbers have scheduled a full seven days of volunteer events to give us all a chance to get out into the community and give back alongside a number of Timbers players.
Many of the events are already full, but there are still plenty of opportunities to join in this week. You can see where help is needed and volunteer here.
The Timbers' press release:
TIMBERS’ STAND TOGETHER WEEK KICKS OFF SUNDAY
Fans invited to join Timbers players, staff in annual citywide volunteering initiative
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers’ second-annual Stand Together Week, a citywide initiative bringing the community together in support of nonprofit projects and volunteer opportunities across the metro area, begins Sunday with a cleanup event at a local park in Hillsboro, Ore., and runs through Saturday, Aug. 10.
Sunday’s kickoff event and project for Stand Together Week will include the maintenance of walking paths and removal of invasive weeds in an 18-acre natural area at Dairy Creek Park, with volunteers and Timbers players Diego Chara, Jack Jewsbury, Will Johnson and Diego Valeri.
Fans are invited to volunteer and work alongside Timbers players, club mascot Timber Joey, select Portland Thorns FC players, Timbers alumni ambassadors and club staff on various projects. All available Timbers players will volunteer their time to at least one project during the week. A complete schedule of events and activities, with participating players, is listed below.
Supported by partners adidas, Alaska Airlines, CenturyLink, Coca-Cola and Providence Health & Services, Stand Together Week, with the help of Hands On Greater Portland, will consist of almost 30 volunteer projects, benefitting more than 20 organizations focused on youth and the environment.
Each project during Stand Together Week, named after the Timbers’ community outreach platform, will engage fans and community members and have a meaningful impact on the community. Activities range from outdoor park/garden maintenance to construction projects and aiding in special youth initiatives.
