Portland Timbers at Vancouver Whitecaps Match Thread [5:00]

The Timbers take on their Cascadian Canadian rivals in a game that could put them within reach of clinching a playoff spot and playing for the Supporter's Shield.

Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers find themselves at the team's MLS home away from home today as they look to continue their current four game unbeaten run against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Timbers have yet to lose to the Whitecaps in MLS play, holding a record of 2-0-1 in BC Place, and another win here would be especially sweet as it would put the Timbers in second place in the Western Conference, leapfrogging the Seattle Sounders in the process.

Here's all the information you need for today's game:

Final Thoughts

Both teams have everything to gain from a win here. Vancouver can move back into the conversation for the final playoff spot and the Timbers can go from being on the outside looking in to serious contenders in the Supporter's Shield race. The Timbers are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were last year, but they've still struggled to get wins on the road with only two this year. A win on the road when it counts would really show that Caleb Porter's team is for real.
