The Ryan Miller Appreciation Thread

Miller played one short season with the Timbers before having his option declined.

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Ryan Miller joined the Timbers on a free transfer from Sweden's Halmstads BK in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Miller had been overseas since striking out from MLS in 2009 and returned to a Timbers' team in need of reinforcements at fullback.

Miller started out the season as the team's right back of choice, but early results were mixed and after two games Caleb Porter reigned in his fullbacks, putting them into a more defensive shape and bringing in Jack Jewsbury in Miller's place. Still in the 18, Miller chipped in where he could; getting minutes as a substitute to close out games or filling in for Jewsbury when he had an ankle knock in the middle of the season.

In September, however, Miller's season came to a close when the team revealed that he would have surgery to repair a stress fracture in his tibia, an injury that he had been playing on for some time. Miller's season was over and, at the end of the year, the Timbers announced that they would not be picking up his option.

Ryan Miller is a hard working player with an easy smile and a tendency to speak his mind: the sort of player that Timbers fans could have grown to love in different circumstances. Best of luck to Ryan wherever he may end up.
