According to South American journalist Emmanuel Quispe, the Portland Timbers will have their man on Friday. Gaston Fernandez, who has been rumored in this space and across these internets as being Caleb Porter's next striker, will reportedly sign a one-year contract. Quispe suggests there is a club option for a second year but others commenting on the developing situation lean more toward the deal just encompassing a single season.

Juan Arango had the deal done on New Years Eve, which was given some credence when Merritt Paulson sent up a Fernandez highlight reel on Twitter on December 31. Prior to that, Andres Cantor noted Argentine media confirming the deal.
So, will La Gata be announced by the Timbers tomorrow? Or will the club continue to wait for that second big signing and announce the pair together?
