Portland Timbers vs. Chicago Fire Match Thread [12:00]

The Timbers take on the Fire in the second match of the season.

USA TODAY Sports

With eight days gone since the season opener the Portland Timbers get back to it today as they host the Chicago Fire here at Providence Park.

With MVP Mike Magee questionable for today's match, the Timbers could be facing a Fire side who are missing their most potent offensive weapon. The Timbers, meanwhile, are still trying to get their group of dangerous attacking players to click and will be hoping to have a level of sharpness not present in last weekend's draw against the Philadelphia Union.

At home, with the Timbers Army at their back and a team on the tail end of a long road trip in front of them, the Timbers have a great opportunity to get their first win of the season today.

Here's all the information you need for today's game:

General Information

Preview Interview: "Expect to see a Fire squad imbued with a little bit of desperation - and, possibly, quite a bit of youth, as Mike Magee, Chris Rolfe and Dilly Duka are all carrying ongoing injuries, which could open the door for exciting young players like Benji Joya and Harrison Shipp to see the field."

Match Preview: "When the attack is on, the Timbers look like they should be capable of taking apart any team in MLS (or CONCACAF, for that matter). As the attacking group gets to better know each other's tendencies, the spacing, passing, and finally the goals will come, it is just a question of whether they will come against Chicago tomorrow."
