Portland Timbers vs. Sporting Kansas City Match Thread [8:00]

The Timbers take on Sporting Kansas City in league play tonight.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers are still striving to get back into playoff contention this year and tonight's match against Eastern Conference visitors Sporting Kansas City could provide a big boost to the Timbers' post-season aspirations. With the match coming so soon after the two teams' Tuesday match in Kansas City, the rematch should add some extra spice to the occasion.

Here is all the information that you need for today's match:

Previews

Match Preview: "With Darlington Nagbe, Diego Valeri, and Rodney Wallace all completely rested after staying home rather than traveling for Tuesday's game, Porter can swap in a whole new attacking line that should be fresh and ready to take the game to SKC. Add in Fanendo Adi, who got some minutes as a substitute earlier in the week, and you have our offensive unit for the Timbers."

Preview Interview: "It was a really poor game played defensively by Sporting KC, and the rare poor game from Sinovic in general, but Portland had Sporting KC game planned perfectly. Once the Timbers got the first goal, Portland was able to sit back a bit and absorb the attack, as Porter said. We saw, especially in the second half, Sporting KC not linking up well in the final third and making bad passes all around."
