The Portland Timbers are on the road today and getting set to take on the Seattle Sounders in the two team's first meeting in the US Open Cup since the Timbers joined MLS in 2011. While the Sounders are currently on top of the MLS standings and the Timbers are surprisingly close to the bottom, this game is all or nothing, with the winner moving one step closer to having their names engraved on the Sir Thomas Dewar Cup.
Here is all the information that you need for today's match:
Previews
Match Preview: "In Urruti's absence the Timbers will need to lean on new designated player Fanendo Adi at the forward position. After scoring four goals in his first two starts with the Timbers, Adi has cooled somewhat, being held off the score sheet in his last three games. Adi has continued to find chances, taking 14 shots over the last three matches, but as teams have adjusted to his style of play and recognized the danger that he presents the chances have been much more difficult to convert, with only four of those attempts going on goal."
Preview Interview: "There are several injuries to key players. Obafemi Martins has minor hamstring issue, as does designated Open Cup keeper Marcus Hahnemann. Djimi Traore just returned to full practice and went 45 minutes against FC Edmonton of the NASL. Dylan Remick is cleared to play, but he's been out a few weeks. Clint Dempsey is taking a couple more days off. You don't have to follow Seattle tightly to see that the lineup choices are going to be a bit diminished."
