Portland Timbers vs. Chicago Fire Preseason Match Thread [7:30]

The Portland Timbers' preseason continues today with their mid-week Simple Invitational match against the Chicago Fire. Following their 1-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday, the Timbers will be trying out a different look today as they recover from the loss of Ben Zemanski to a torn ACL and the team's inability to score so far this year.

Today's lineup will see a number of players in the first choice XI contribute as well as players that are expected to be in the 18 and some that are currently on the outside looking in. We will even see some player that have been getting looks with the Timbers new T2 side as the team strives to put together their USL club.

The tenor of the conversations around the club is very much more positive going into 2015. Instead of betting that this time we were gonna find the mythical South American player-just-ready-to-blow-up-and-ride-that-success-to-moneyville, Frank Yallop, Brian Bliss and ownership spent a bit of actual money on players with both some pedigree and some upside.
