The Portland Timbers are in Canada today to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps for the first time in 2015. The Timbers are still in search of their first win of the season, while the 'Caps are looking to maintain their place near the top of the table in the Western Conference thanks to a pair of 1-0 wins in their last two matches.
Form may mean nothing when it come to matches between rivals, but in this case the early season and the rosters depleted by call ups, injuries, and suspensions for both teams mean that anything could happen in today's match.
Previews
Match Preview: "The Timbers have faced a tumultuous week as they prepare to take on the Whitecaps, first losing right back Alvas Powell to a call up to the Jamaican National Team, then losing holding midfielder and potential right back replacement Jack Jewsbury to concussion symptoms, following last Saturday's match against Sporting Kansas City. As the week progressed, however, news broke that Powell would be returning to the team for Saturday's match, giving the Timbers a temporary reprieve from their woes at right back."
Preview Interview: "The loss of Kekuta Manneh hurts for sure, but at the same time, Manneh had his worst outing of the season against Orlando FC, and was probably due for a benching anyways. In terms of the 'Caps playing style, it might not change that much considering they've brought in the veteran Robert Earnshaw for the rest of the season. Earnshaw can play the wing and is much better at set pieces than Kekuta Manneh, so he may just slide in the kids' spot."
