The Portland Timbers are back home and looking to bounce back from a long road trip in today's match against D.C. United. Taking on the league's top team is never going to be easy, particularly without Diego Valeri, but the Timbers need to start somewhere if they want to turn this season around.
Previews
Match Preview: "The Timbers could go with one of their previously attempted lineups as they look to fill in the void left without Valeri, either bringing Darlington Nagbe central and playing Dairon Asprilla out wide on the right or bringing in Gaston Fernandez as a false-ten/second striker behind the attack. Both formations are familiar and neither has worked particularly well for the Timbers this year."
Preview Interview: "D.C. United has been a defense first team these past two years. The arrival of Bobby Boswell completely revamped United's backline, and both Steve Birnbaum and Kofi Opare have been worthy partners for him. And, of course, they play in front of the best goalkeeper in the league in Bill Hamid, who has just signed a new deal with D.C. United. However, the rate of goalscoring obviously needs to improve if D.C. United are to be a true threat this year."
