After last season's disastrous 3-1 defeat in extra time, the Portland Timbers will look for revenge from the Seattle Sounders in tonight's U.S. Open Cup match. On the road in Tukwila, the Timbers will be looking to kick their Open Cup run off in style as the only MLS team to travel and take on another MLS team.
Previews
Match Preview: "The Timbers' back five are unlikely to be changed from the group that has made the Timbers one of strongest defensive teams in the league for the first half of the 2015 season, but the pair of holding midfielders in front of them -- also a huge part of the Timbers' success to date -- will be forced into a change by Will Johnson's call up to the Canadian Men's National Team and Diego Chara's red card in last year's Open Cup match between the Timbers and Sounders."
Preview Interview: "When Seattle wins the ball they will initially look for a quick strike into the final third and the feet of Clint/Obafemi. If that isn't available they use central third possession. This prevents other teams from attacking and allows the Sounders to find sequences that emulate counters from their own possession. It also maximizes the chance that they are in their preferred defensive shape."
