The Portland Timbers are hosting their first Cascadia Cup match of the season today as the streaking Vancouver Whitecaps comes to town.
With the Timbers having lost their last three matches and the Whitecaps having won theirs, including a 2-1 win over the Timbers in Vancouver, it is clear who the team on form is in this match. However, this is a Cascadia derby match and with pride and points on offer, anything less than a win from the Timbers would be a huge disappointment today.
Previews
Stumptown Preview: "If you track Adi's run, he initially starts matched up against the Sounders' Chad Marshall but begins to peel off, finding himself on the back shoulder of the other center back, Zach Scott. This type of movement is a nightmare for defenders; it is remarkably difficult to keep track of both the ball and the man in situations like this. Adi is aware of the difficulty and uses it to his advantage, getting on the end of a perfectly placed ball from Wallace."
Preview Interview: "It hasn't just been the new faces that have been impressing recently; the old guard has started playing like they have last year. Morales has been impressive in the midfield with his distribution, and Manneh's patented counter attacking runs have come back. The defense is nowhere near where it should be (more on that later), but as long as we're scoring more than we're conceding, the fans in Vancouver will be happy."
