Portland Timbers at New York City FC: How to watch, Preview, Match Chat [3:30]

Matthew Wolfe

The Portland Timbers continue their 2019 season with one of their few remaining road matches as they take on New York City FC. After grinding out a 1-0 win against FC Dallas last weekend, the Timbers had a brief respite from their fixture congestion with no mid-week match this week. One can hope they enjoyed their rest, because starting with this match, the Timbers will have 6 matches in the next 20 days.

While the Timbers are beginning to climb up the table after playing their first road games of the season, NYCFC are in the midst of a 12-match MLS unbeaten run and have only lost once all season.

How the Timbers approach the match remains to be seen, as they travel to Los Angeles for a US Open Cup Quarterfinal against LAFC on Wednesday. With many top T2 players absent from their match on Saturday, it seems possible that the Timbers will once again field a rotated squad against an east-coast opponent.

Preview

Storylines: “NYCFC are on a roll and one of the top teams in MLS: They put the Seattle Sounders to the sword 3-0, with goals from Maxi Moralez, Jesus Medina, and Ebenezer Ofori. With the win, the Citizens are just six points off the pace in the Eastern Conference.”
