Hot on the heels of the MLS SuperDraft, the second ever NWSL College Draft takes place this morning at 7:00 am and the Portland Thorns are picking 11th. As the Houston Dash enter the league, the draft will give the Thorns another chance to tweak their roster under the guidance of new head coach Paul Riley.
Although the Thorns, who won the NWSL Championship last year, will pick late, there are a number of intreaguing possibilities to look at in this draft. The full list of elligible players can be found here and it includes four players from the Portland area, including University of Portland star Amanda Frisbee.
The draft will be broadcast via a chat, hosted here, and should be much more concise than the MLS version yesterday. In the draft's four rounds, the Thorns hold picks No. 11, 25, and 34, but have no first round pick.
The Picks
No. 11: Traded to the Houston Dash with Nikki Washington for Meleana Shim.
No. 25: Emily Menges
No. 34: Traded to the Boston Breakers for Michelle Betos.
