The Portland Thorns have waived midfielder Sarah Robbins, the team announced Thursday afternoon.
Robbins made a single NWSL appearances for the Thorns, relieving Allie Long in the 88th minute of their 4-1 victory over the Boston Breakers, but was only in the matchday 18 two other times for the Thorns: April 18 vs. Western New York and May 9 vs. Washington.
Expected to make appearances for the Thorns while they were missing key players due to the World Cup, Robbins found herself surpassed by amateur players Kate Bennett and Taylor Comeau, both of whom have earned starts or made appearances for the Thorns this season.
Signed by the Thorns in February from Finnish club Åland United, Robbins made 3 appearances in the preseason and started against the University of Portland on March 21.
NWSL Roster Rules necessitated that the Thorns move a player prior to the return of their 8 internationals at the World Cup, as they were at 21 players on the roster, with Stephanie Catley inactive due to national team commitments with Australia, in addition to 6 amateur players
