Portland Thorns vs. Chicago Red Stars: How to Watch, Match Chat [3:00]

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Red Stars will provide a stiff test for the Portland Thorns today as the two sides face off. With the Thorns unbeaten in their first seven matches so far this season, despite having six players recently called up to the United States Women's National Team, and the Red Stars undefeated in their last six, both sides will be looking to extend their current form and, if they can grab a win, push past the Western New York Flash at the top of the table.

The Thorns will have their US internationals back for this one, adding some extra flavor to the match and transforming the side from a defensively stout and hardworking team, into what has to be one of the most talented sides ever seen. The reintroduction of Tobin Heath and Allie Long will certainly be a boon to the Thorns' attack, while the defense will get even stronger with Klingenberg and Sonnet in the back line while Horan patrols the midfield. Even the return of Adrianna Franch, who might not win the starting spot back from Michelle Betos, provides some comfort to the side in light of Betos's recent injury issues.

Of course, one player the Thorns will still be without is recently arrived holding midfielder Amandine Henry. The French star touched down in Portland earlier this week, but will not be available for this afternoon's match.
