Five members of the Portland Thorns have been named among the selections by United States Women's National Team head coach Jill Ellis for the pre-Olympic friendlies against South Africa on July 9 in Chicago.
Defenders Meghan Klingenberg, Emily Sonnett, and midfielders Tobin Heath, Lindsey Horan, and Allie Long were all named to the 24 player roster. Goalkeeper Adrianna Franch, who participated in the previous training camp, was not included as Ellis whittles her roster down to the maximum 18 players prior to the start of the Rio Olympics in early August.
The players will be available for the Thorns' match this Sunday against the Orlando Pride. They will then join the National Team camp on July 1, missing the matches July 2 vs. Sky Blue FC, July 9 vs. FC Kansas City, July 16 vs. Houston, and for those players making the final cut, July 30 vs. Seattle.
