Thorns Activate Johnson from DL

Johnson has missed the majority of the 2016 season after suffering a concussion while playing in Australia.

Portland Thorns defender Kendall Johnson has been activated from the disabled list.  In a corresponding move, defender McKenzie Berryhill has been released.

Johnson, 25, suffered a concussion while playing in the Australian W-League last offseason.  Earlier this season, she opened up about her recovery in a blog post on her website, Arrow Living.

Making 17 appearances for the Thorns last season, including 12 starts, Johnson registered an assist in her first season as a Thorn.

The Thorns return to Providence Park this Sunday, taking on the Boston Breakers at 4:00pm.

Club waives defender McKenzie Berryhill


PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC have activated midfielder Kendall Johnson from the 45-day disabled list and have added her to the active roster, the club announced today. Additionally, the club announced that is has waived defender McKenzie Berryhill.

Johnson, 25, appeared in 17 games (12 starts) during the 2015 NWSL season, logging 1,218 minutes and registering one assist during the regular season. The Portland native is in her second season with Thorns FC after previously playing for Sky Blue FC during the 2013 NWSL season. 

Berryhill, 23, was selected by Thorns FC in the third round (No. 21 overall) of the 2016 NWSL College Draft, appearing in five games (2 starts) and logging 182 minutes this season.
