Portland Trades Taylor Peay Rights to RSL

A name we haven’t heard of in a little while is back again for a fleeting moment. Taylor Peay spent all of 2017 playing for Real Monarchs, the MLS 2 side in USL for Real Salt Lake.

But despite leaving the Timbers in 2016, we still held his MLS rights, until today. Portland traded the MLS Right of First Refusal for Taylor Peay over to his USL side’s parent club: Real Salt Lake. In exchange, Portland gets a 3rd round draft pick in the upcoming 2018 Superdraft.

TIMBERS ACQUIRE THIRD-ROUND PICK IN 2018 MLS SUPERDRAFT FROM REAL SALT LAKE

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers have acquired a third-round selection in the 2018 Major League Soccer SuperDraft in exchange for the right of first refusal on defender Taylor Peay, it was announced today.

Peay, 26, spent three seasons (2014-16) with the Timbers, making seven appearances (4 starts), before signing with Real Salt Lake’s USL club, Real Monarchs SLC, ahead of the 2017 USL campaign.

Transaction: Portland Timbers acquire 2018 third-round MLS SuperDraft pick from Real Salt Lake in exchange for the right of first refusal on defender Taylor Peay.
