Nadia Nadim and Dagny Brynjarsdottir called up for the 2017 Euros

Both look to make their mark at the 2017 Euros.

The Portland Thorns announced today that Dagny Brynjarsdottir and Nadia Nadim have been called in by their respective national teams to take part in the 2017 Euro’s which will take place July 16 and August 6th, in the Netherlands.

Nadim has been capped by Denmark 66 times making her debut at the 2009 Algarve Cup and has picked up 16 goals for her home nation. Brynjarsdottir has been capped 70 times for her country, bagging 19 goals. Dagny made her international debut at the 2010 Algarve cup.

PORTLAND, Ore.Portland Thorns FC midfielder Dagny Brynjarsdottir (Iceland) and forward Nadia Nadim (Denmark) have been named to the roster for their respective national teams for the 2017 European Championships from July 16-Aug. 6 in the Netherlands.

Brynjarsdottir, Nadim and Amandine Henry, who was named to the roster for the France Women’s National Team on May 30 for the tournament, will depart to join their national teams on July 2 following Portland’s game against Seattle on Saturday.

Playing in group A, Nadim and Denmark open group play against Belgium on July 16 before squaring off against the Netherlands (July 20) and Norway (July 24), while Brynjarsdottir and Iceland take on France in their first game in group C on July 18 and conclude group play with games against Switzerland (July 22) and Austria (July 26). The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinal round July 29-30 followed by the semifinal round on Aug. 3 and the final on Aug. 6 at FC Twente Stadion in Enschede.

Now in her second season with Thorns FC, Nadim has tallied four goals and one assist in nine matches for Portland in 2017. Brynjarsdottir, also in in her second season with the club, has appeared in three matches this season. Playing for Denmark, Nadim has earned 66 caps, tallying 16 goals. Brynjarsdottir has made 70 appearances for Iceland, scoring 19 goals.
