Portland Timbers vs. LA Galaxy: How to Watch, Preview, Match Chat [11:00]

MLS: Portland Timbers at Los Angeles Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers are back at it bright and early today as they host the LA Galaxy. The side are approaching full fitness for the first time in months — Gbenga Arokoyo aside — and today’s match should prove to be a window into the Timbers’ potential to make a push for the playoffs in the final third of the season.

The Timbers are looking to beat the heat, but more important are three home points against the 9th place Galaxy. After Saturday’s Western Conference results the Timbers have fallen into seventh place, looking up from below the red line. A win today could move the Timbers into a four-way tie for second place at 34 points, although on points per game it would move them only as high as sixth.

Storylines: “One of the main stories out of LA is a change in leadership. Curt Onalfo out and former Seattle Sounders head man Sigi Schmid in. He comes in as the league heads into the final third of the season and is tasked with righting a listless ship.”
