Portland Timbers homegrown left back Marco Farfan and midfielder Eryk Williamson received call-ups to the U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team training camp, which takes place from June 9th until the 16th. Williamson was recently called up to a combined USMNT/U-23 camp in late May. Both players will be unavailable for the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, June 12th, between the Timbers and Seattle Sounders.
Meanwhile, Timbers midfielders Andy Polo of Peru and Andres Flores of El Salvador have departed to join their respective national teams until the second week of July. Polo will compete with Peru in the CONMEBOL Copa America in Brazil from June 14th to July 7th, while Flores first traveles to Japan with El Salvador for a friendly against the Samurai Blue before competing in the Gold Cup, which runs from June 15th to July 7th.
With Sebastian Blanco out of the next MLS match at home against the Houston Dynamo on June 22nd due to yellow card accumulation, and Polo and Flores away with their National Teams, Timbers coach Gio Savarese could choose between Eryk Williamson, Tomas Conechny, Dairon Asprilla or Marvin Loria to fill the hole in attacking midfield. It could be an opportunity for one of these players to prove themselves and earn more playing time in the future.
