The soccer weekend came to the Pacific Northwest with mixed results in Saturday's doubleheader.
The Portland Thorns took care of business in their 2-0 victory over Orlando to start off the weekend. Prior to the game, they raised the 2016 shield with matching -- and spectacular -- tifo. Nadia Nadim and Christine Sinclair both put numbers on the board.
Just five hours later, the Portland Timbers would take to the pitch and lose a hard fought, WWE-style, no holds barred match against Sporting Kansas City. The Timbers were beaten, battered, and shut out; dropping all three points after a gut-wrenching Dom Dwyer goal.
Finally, T2 could do no better than the senior squad, dropping a 1-0 result to Vancouver Whitecaps 2 on Sunday despite playing in front of a sparse but raucous crowd and running out a handful of first-team players.
