The Portland Timbers will open the 2019 campaign – its ninth in MLS – with an extended series of road games due to completion work on a multiphase, $75 million stadium-expansion project that will add approximately 4,000 new seats to the east side of Providence Park and a host of amenities and improvements throughout the stadium.
Their first home match of the season is set to take place on June 1st against Los Angeles Football Club, while they open the season on the road at Colorado on March 2nd. Also, the Timbers will be going on the road to open expansion side FC Cincinnati’s home schedule on Sunday March 17th.
The June 1st match is the fourth time in the teams MLS history that they’ll face a Western Conference opponent. Since 2011 the Timbers are 5-0-3 in home openers.
