The Portland Timbers announced today that they have waived Tomas Conechny, after the player and team mutually agreed to part ways. The midfielder leaves the team after three seasons, having made 31 appearances, including 8 starts. In just over 600 minutes played, Conechny tallied 1 goal and 3 assists with the Timbers.

Originally joining the Timbers on loan from San Lorenzo in 2018, he was permanently acquired in 2019. A young and unproven talent, Conechny was seen as a developmental project for the Timbers, with the potential of becoming a big contributor in the midfield After three seasons, limited minutes, and uneven performances, it appears that that won’t be the case.

In the short term, this leaves the Timbers a little lighter on depth in the midfield as they enter the bulk of their preseason. It remains to be seen how or if Portland adds to that now lesser depth, as their Concacaf Champions League campaign begins in just four weeks.
