The Portland Thorns announced today that seven players have been called up by their respective national teams for the October FIFA international break. Becky Sauerbrunn, Lindsey Horan and Sophia Smith were called up to the U.S. Women’s National Team. Christine Sinclair will play with Canada, Natalia Kuikka with Finland, Rocky Rodriguez with Costa Rica and Olivia Moultrie was called up to the U.S. U-20 camp.

Horan, Sauerbrunn and Smith will play Korea Republic in Kansas City, KS and St. Paul, MN on Oct. 21 and Oct. 26 respectively. The first match will be broadcast on ESPN2 and TUDN. Horan will be honored for her 100th cap prior to the match at Children’s Mercy Park. The Thorns midfielder made her centennial appearance for the USWNT in the Tokyo Olympics and did not feature in either of the U.S.’s two friendlies against Paraguay in Ohio.

Tokyo Olympic gold medalists Sinclair and Canada will play two friendlies as part of the Women’s National Team Celebration Tour in Ottawa, Ontario on Oct. 23 and in Montreal Quebec on Oct. 26. Canada will play New Zealand in both matches. Sinclair made her 300th appearance at the Olympics.

Kuikka will also play two matches as she and Finland continue their World Cup Qualification campaign. Finland take on Georgia on Oct. 21 and Ireland on Oct. 26. Finland currently sit second in Group A behind Sweden, which has played one more game than Finland. Ireland, Slovakia and Georgia make up the rest of the group.

Rodriguez and Costa Rica travel to Fort Lauderdale, FL where they will play Jamaica. The two teams will play on Oct. 21 and Oct. 24.

Moultrie has been called into the U-20 USWNT training camp which will take place from Oct. 17 to Oct. 24. This training camp comes in the build-up to the 2022 U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica. Moultrie most recently made two appearances in February 2020 for the U-17 USWNT against England.
