2017 Stand Together Week

In case you missed it; it’s Stand Together Week.

The 2017 edition started yesterday, Sunday, June 4th and continues through Saturday, June 10th. And for those who don’t know: Stand Together Week is a special week of volunteering each year where players and staff from all three professional teams work with volunteers from all over the metro area to make a difference in a bunch of different projects and programs.

The Portland Timbers are well known for giving back to the community all year around, but Stand Together Week is where a lot of it comes together for many people and organizations.

Just two days in there have already been events such as cleaning books at the Children’s Book Bank and assisting SOLVE to remove non-native invasive plant species from Mary S Young Park.

And there are over 30 projects going on this week that anyone can volunteer to help with. Listed below are just a few:

Tuesday (6/6):

Habitat for Humanity
Time: 1-2:30 p.m.
Activity: Timbers midfielders Diego Chara and Victor Arboleda, along with T2 players Blake Bodily and Michael Amick, aid volunteers in helping to build homes at the Allen Estates construction projection.
Location: Allen Estates, 6486 SW 124th Ave., Beaverton, OR 97008

DHS Foster Care Room
Activity: Along with Thorns FC head coach Mark Parsons and defender Meghan Cox, volunteers will help paint a mural and install furniture and bookshelves as part of a Thorns FC-themed foster care room makeover.
(This project is very full!)

Wednesday (6/7):

Willamette Riverkeeper
Time: 1-2:30 p.m.
Activity: Join Thorns FC defender Emily Sonnett, forward Mallory Weber and goalkeeper coach Nadine Angerer as they help clean up the beach and forest area along the shoreline of the river.
Location: Kelley Point Park, N. Kelly Point Park Rd., Portland, OR 97203

Kateri Park
Time: 4:30-6 p.m.
Activity: Timbers and Thorns FC president of soccer Gavin Wilkinson, Timbers defender Lawrence Olum, Thorns FC goalkeeper Adrianna Franch and midfielder Mana Shim and T2 players Michael Amick and Kyle Bjornethun join volunteers to help organize an art class, helping children with drawings, cutouts and collages.
Location: Kateri Park, 3640 SE 28th Ave., Portland, OR 97202

Thursday (6/8)::

AC Portland
Time: 2:30-4 p.m.
Activity: Timbers defender Liam Ridgewell and assistant coach Cameron Knowles will join volunteers in assisting coaches with running futsal practice drills and games, organizing scrimmages with a youth team and helping with field clean-up and food distribution.
Location: Hacienda CDC, 6700 NE Killingsworth St., Portland, OR 97218

Playworks!
Time: 5-6:30 p.m.
Activity: Along with Timbers head coach Caleb Porter, defender Zarek Valentin, Thorns FC goalkeeper Adrianna Franch and T2 players Russell Cicerone and Max Ornstil, volunteers will take part in “Family Recess Night,” participating in playground games and activities with children.
Location: Cherry Park Elementary School, 1930 NE 104th Ave., Portland, OR 97216

These are just 6 of the many projects and events out there this week to volunteer for. I myself will be volunteering at a few of them so hopefully I’ll see some of you around!
