The Portland Timbers wrap up the 2016 Simple Invitational today with a match against the Chicago Fire. After a rough 2-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps mid-week, the Timbers will be looking to rebound in this match and will be playing their full first starting XI and aiming to give most of the side a full 90 minute run out.
In the Fire the Timbers have an opponent that finished at the bottom of the Major League Soccer table last season, but has made a major overhaul in the offseason, and is aiming to turn things around. What kind of lineup the Fire will play is still up in the air, but with the team in flux, every player on the Chicago roster will be playing for a spot, either in the XI, the 18, or even just on the roster.
Preview
Preseason Preview: "On the defensive end, the Timbers are still going through some uncertainty. While Chris Klute has made steps forward in his rehabilitation from offseason meniscus surgery and Liam Ridgewell has had some time to recover from the calf issues that have plagued him recently, it seems unlikely that the pair will be ready to go for tomorrow.
