The Portland Thorns host the North Carolina Courage at Providence Park in the teams’ last match of the regular season. Before the match, the Thorns will be awarded the 2021 NWSL Shield, which they clinched with their 1-0 win in Houston over the Dash. The Thorns will also honor former players Katherine Reynolds and Britt Eckerstrom, who announced their retirements after the 2020 NWSL Fall Series.
North Carolina are winless in their last three matches and come to Portland in need of a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. This game does not have any real implications for the Thorns. Portland have wrapped up the Shield and will host a home semifinal. But it is the last match for the Thorns to improve before their single-elimination semifinal on November 14.
