The WICC is set to return to Providence Park after the Portland Thorns won the trophy at home in 2021. The Thorns will have the chance to retain their WICC title at home in 2022. The tournament will be held between August 12-21, 2022.
The participating teams have yet to be announced but the 2022 European Championship is sure to have an effect on which teams decide to travel to Portland and what players are available for selection. The 2022 Euro final is on July 31 and the WICC could start as early as 12 days later.
The four teams involved in the 2021 WICC were the Portland Thorns, the Houston Dash, Olympique Lyonnais and FC Barcelona. The Thorns defeated the Dash on penalty kicks to advance to the final before they defeated Lyon in the WICC championship match
Neither the Thorns nor Relevent Sports Group have released an official statement confirming the location of the 2022 Women’s International Champions Cup.
