Timbers U23s to Host Sounders U23s in PDL Playoffs in T2 Doubleheader

This weekend's Cascadia clashes gets a little Seattle flavor, as the Portland Timbers U23s host Seattle Sounders U23s at Merlo Field on Sunday at 3:00pm in a doubleheader, with the nightcap featuring T2 vs. Whitecaps 2 at 7:00pm.

The U23s and Seattle met twice in the regular season, both shutout wins for Portland. In their first meeting on June 21, forward Geoffrey Dee netted his lone goal of the season in the 28th minute of a 1-0 victory. while midfielder Todd Wharton scored a second half brace to give the U23s a 2-0 victory and a clean sweep of the Sounders' PDL side on June 26, which earned Wharton PDL Player of the Week honors.

Midfielders Ben White and Todd Wharton lead the U23s in scoring, with 4 and 3 goals respectively, with both adding 1 assist, while Timbers Academy product Foster Langsdorf both added 2 goals and 1 assist, andseveral players added 1 goal each, with midfielder Ismaila Jome leading the team with 2 assists. Academy product Collin Partee leads a platoon of goalkeepers with a 4-1-2 record, 4 clean sheets, and a goals against average of .428, which would be 2nd in the PDL if he met the minimum minutes played requirement.

The U23s and Seattle (formerly Tacoma Tide) have previously met 16 times, with Portland leading the overall series 12-3-1, and have not lost to Sounders U23s since 2012.

The winner of this match moves on to the PDL Western Conference Championship, taking place from July 24-26, with the winner from that round moving on to face the Central Conference winner for a place in the semifinals/
